1. Who we are

2. What we collect
- Vehicle search inputs: number plates and VINs you enter for a check.
- Contact details: name, email address and message content when you contact us.
- Order details: which report plan you choose and basic transaction records.
- Technical data: device type, browser and pages visited, used for security and performance.
3. Lawful bases (UK GDPR)
- Contract: to deliver the report you request and handle support.
- Legitimate interests: to prevent fraud, keep our service secure and improve our reports.
- Consent: for any optional marketing, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Legal obligation: VAT invoices and records we must keep by law.
4. How we use vehicle data
Number plates and VINs are used only to compile your report from licensed UK sources (DVLA, DVSA MOT, MIAFTR, HPI finance feeds, PNC stolen records and CAP valuations). We never sell your searches or your personal data.
5. Sharing
We share data only with suppliers needed to run the service, such as vehicle-data providers, hosting and payment processors. All suppliers handle UK data under written contracts with appropriate safeguards.
6. Retention
Reports and search records are kept for up to 6 years for fraud prevention and accounting, then deleted or anonymised. Contact messages are kept for up to 2 years. You can request earlier deletion (see your rights below) unless the law requires us to keep a record.
7. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or port your data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email privacy@cargauge.co.uk and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
8. Cookies
This site uses no tracking or advertising cookies. If we add analytics or payment cookies in future, we will ask for consent first and update this policy.
9. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest on UK-hosted infrastructure with restricted staff access. No method is 100 percent secure, so please never send us passwords or bank details by email.
10. Changes
We will post any changes on this page with a new last-updated date. Material changes will also be flagged on the homepage.
